.Case study: Landrover Overfinch

This 4x4 was given an Executive Plus Valet.

I was asked to give this much loved Landrover Overfinch an Exective valet to bring back its shine.

The exterior of the car was covered in road grit, mud and heavy tar spots, which are hard to remove without the right equipment.

The paint work was also dull with swirl marks and scratches, so it needed to be mopped (machine polished).

The interior was fairly grubby as well, the boot area was the worst so this needed wet vaccing.

The body of the overfinch was firstly rinsed to loosen and remove the mud and grit. To do this I applied a TFR (traffic film remover) cleaner which helps with the cleaning process by loosening all the dirt.

The next stage was to wash the body work using a good quality wash and wax shampoo which I used with a lambs wool mitt. This was followed by another rinse off ready to chamois off.

Next I tackled the wheels which were dirty, they were covered in the normal grit tar and brake dust which you don’t want to leave on the wheels because over time all this will bake on and eat into the surface. Once this happens it destroys the lacquer which can then start to peel and flake off, it also embeds into the alloy causing little tiny black stained pit marks - once this happens it’s very difficult to remove, sometimes impossible.

To clean the alloys I used an alloy wheel cleaner and a wheel brush.

The final exterior cleaning step was to clean the engine bay with engine cleaner and power washer. Once it was dry I dressed the plastics, making them shiney and new looking - which looks impressive.

Now that the exterior had been fully cleaned it was time to chamois off the 911 ready to be dressed and polished.

The body work was clay-barred to remove all the nasty contaminants including the tar spots. You must always use a clay bar lubricant with your clay bar which you rub over each panel at a time applying the lubricant as you go.

Once I had a nice smooth finish on the paint work it was time to machine polish the car to remove the swirl marks and the light scratches bringing the paint work back to life.

I applied a good quality hard wax by hand and polished off with a microfiber cloth.

The final finish to the body work was a add a coat of glaze to add extra protection and the ultimate deep shine.

Then I treated the tyres with a tyre and trim plastic dressing with gives the tyres an ultra shine which really sets the outside of the car off.

The whees were waxed with a wheel wax which is especially designed just for alloys giving them deep shine and protection against harmful brake dust.

Next I cleaned the windows inside and out with a window cleaner buffing them with a microfiber cloth.

The interior was now the next step, I hoovered the complete inside of the vehicle including boot area removing panels and carpet to make sure everywhere was cleaned. I cleaned the door and boot shuts with a degreaser/polish to remove all grease & dirt. Next I wiped down the dash and all plastic trims and seats.

I wet vacced the carpets and boot area removing the dirt and stains.

All the leather was dressed with a leather restorer giving the seats a deep shine and it helps to restore their moisture to bring their appearance back to life.

Both the customer and I were very pleased with the final results.
